Accessing the PPSR
There are two main ways that you can access the PPS Register, either as:
- a casual user, or
- an account customer.
Access and use of the PPS Register and its information is subject to users complying with the current version (as notified to you) of the PPS Register General Conditions of Use.
Conditions of use for a casual user
A casual user is anyone who accesses the PPSR without a login. You would access the PPSR as a casual user if you will not access the register very often and you can pay for each transaction with a credit card.
A common task a casual user would carry out on the PPSR is performing a search to see if a security interest exists against an item of collateral. For example, if you are a potential buyer of a motor vehicle, you may want to perform a search using a vehicle identification number (VIN) to check whether there is a security interest over the car.
As a casual user, you need to know that access to and use of data provided through the PPSR is subject to the PPS Register General Conditions of Use and applicable third party conditions. Make sure you read the PPS Register General Conditions of Use now.
Conditions of use for an account customer
Any user who expects to use the PPSR on a regular basis should consider whether to apply to be an account customer. An account customer can be an individual person or an organisation with a number of staff members using the PPSR. In effect, an account customer is ‘known’ to the PPSR and an account customer user will have a login with their user name and password to carry out transactions on the PPSR.
Any transaction associated with the registration process (creating a SPG; creating, amending or discharging a registration) can only be performed by an account customer.
An account customer will need to create an account. As an account customer, you need to know that access to and use of data provided through the register is subject to the PPSR Account Customer Conditions of Use (which include the General Conditions of Use) and applicable third party conditions.
